You’re not looking for generic studio portraits that sit in a drawer. You need headshots that make your LinkedIn profile worth clicking. Family portraits your kids will want to hang in their own homes someday. Images that feel like you, not some stiff version of you.
That’s what happens when someone who’s been doing this for over 40 years knows how to light you, pose you, and put you at ease. You’ll see the difference in the first few shots.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s authenticity with polish. You’ll look like yourself—just the version of yourself that shows up on your best days. No awkward posing. No harsh lighting. No wondering if you should’ve waited until you lost ten pounds.
We’ve been serving Barrett, TX and the greater Houston area since 1984. That’s not just longevity—it’s proof that the work holds up and clients come back.
The foundation started with Army photography training, then grew into commercial, corporate, and editorial work across industries. That background means you’re getting someone who understands lighting, composition, and how to make people comfortable in front of the camera—not just someone with a nice camera.
Barrett families and Houston professionals trust us because the process is straightforward, the results are consistent, and there’s no overselling. You get what you need without the runaround.
First, we talk. You’ll share what you need the portraits for—LinkedIn, family wall art, updated business headshots, senior photos—and any concerns you have. That’s where we address the “I don’t know what to wear” or “I hate being photographed” stuff upfront.
Then we schedule your session. If it’s headshots, we’re usually working in-studio with controlled lighting. For family portraits, we can shoot on location in Barrett or somewhere nearby that matters to you. Either way, you’ll know the plan before you show up.
During the shoot, you’re getting real-time direction. How to stand, where to look, how to relax your shoulders. Most people feel awkward for about five minutes, then settle in. That’s normal, and it’s part of the process.
After the session, you’ll review your images and choose what you want. No pressure to buy packages you don’t need. You pick what works, and we handle the retouching and final delivery. Simple as that.
Ready to get started?
Every portrait session includes a pre-shoot consultation so we’re on the same page before you ever step in front of the camera. You’re not showing up blind.
You’ll get professional posing guidance throughout the session. That means direction on hand placement, body angles, where to focus your eyes—all the small things that make a huge difference in the final image. This isn’t a “just smile and hope it turns out” situation.
Lighting is handled based on what flatters you, not what’s trendy. Whether we’re in the studio or shooting outdoors in Barrett, the setup is designed to make you look like the best version of yourself.
After the shoot, you’ll see a full gallery of edited proofs. You choose what you want, and those selections get professional retouching—nothing overdone, just cleaned up and polished. Then you receive high-resolution digital files ready for print or online use. If you need prints, we handle that too.
Houston-area clients appreciate that there’s no bait-and-switch pricing. You know what you’re paying upfront, and that’s what you pay.
Wear something that fits well and makes you feel like yourself. That’s the real answer, even if it sounds too simple.
For professional headshots, stick with solid colors and avoid busy patterns. Patterns can distract from your face, and that’s what people should be looking at. Darker tones tend to photograph well and keep the focus on your expression. If you’re getting corporate headshots, think about what you’d wear to an important meeting—that’s usually the right call.
For family portraits, coordinate without matching. You don’t need everyone in white shirts and jeans unless that’s genuinely your style. Choose a color palette—say, earth tones or blues—and let everyone pick something within that range. The goal is to look cohesive, not like you’re wearing uniforms. And if your kid insists on wearing that one shirt they love, let them. A happy kid photographs better than a miserable one in the “perfect” outfit.
Headshots usually take 30 to 45 minutes. That includes time to adjust lighting, try a couple of different looks if you brought wardrobe options, and make sure we’ve captured what you need.
Family sessions run closer to an hour, sometimes a bit longer if you’ve got young kids who need a few minutes to warm up. There’s no timer running—if we need extra time to get everyone comfortable and smiling, that’s what we do.
The actual shooting time is just part of it. Before the session, we’ll spend a few minutes talking through what you’re hoping to get and addressing any concerns. During the shoot, there’s ongoing direction and adjustment. Afterward, you’ll have time to review images on the spot if you want, though most people prefer to look through the full gallery later when they’re not rushed.
Yes, and outdoor sessions work well for families, seniors, and anyone wanting a more relaxed, natural setting. Barrett and the surrounding Houston area have plenty of locations that photograph well—parks, open fields, urban backgrounds, wherever fits what you’re going for.
The advantage of shooting outdoors is the variety. You’re not locked into one backdrop, and natural light can be beautiful when it’s managed correctly. The downside is weather dependence, so we’ll always have a backup plan or reschedule date in mind.
For business headshots, studio sessions are usually the better choice. The lighting is controlled, the background is clean, and there are no distractions. But if you want environmental portraits—say, photos of you in your workspace or on a job site—we can make that work too. It just depends on what the images are for and how you want to be represented.
Most people aren’t, so you’re in good company. Camera anxiety is one of the most common concerns that comes up before a session, and it’s completely normal.
Here’s what helps: you’ll get direction throughout the entire shoot. You’re not expected to know how to pose or where to look. That’s our job, and after 40 years, those adjustments happen quickly. Within the first few minutes, most people start to relax because they realize they’re not fumbling through it alone.
The other thing that helps is seeing the images as we go. When you can see that you actually look good in the photos, the anxiety drops. It’s not about being photogenic—it’s about being photographed well. There’s a difference, and that difference is mostly about lighting, angles, and guidance. You bring yourself. The rest is handled.
You’ll see edited proofs within a few days of your session—usually within a week at most. Those are the images you’ll review and choose from.
Once you’ve made your selections, final retouched images are typically delivered within one to two weeks. That timeline covers professional editing, color correction, and any retouching that’s needed to make sure the images are polished and print-ready.
If you’re on a tight deadline—say, you need a headshot for a conference next week or family portraits before someone moves—let us know upfront. Rush delivery can usually be arranged, and it’s easier to plan for that from the beginning than to try to speed things up mid-process. Most Barrett and Houston clients find the standard turnaround works fine, but flexibility is there when you need it.
Your phone is great for candid moments. It’s not great for images you’re going to use professionally or display in your home for the next decade.
The difference comes down to lighting, composition, and posing. We know how to position you so your features are flattered, not flattened. Lighting is controlled to avoid harsh shadows, weird color casts, and unflattering angles. The background is chosen intentionally, not just whatever happens to be behind you.
There’s also the matter of how you present yourself. If you’re using a headshot on LinkedIn, your website, or marketing materials, that image is often the first impression someone has of you. A smartphone selfie—even a good one—doesn’t communicate the same level of professionalism as a properly lit, well-composed portrait. It’s not about vanity. It’s about credibility. People make snap judgments based on visuals, and you want those judgments working in your favor, not against you.
