Your headshot is often the first impression someone has of you. Whether it’s on LinkedIn, your company website, or a conference bio, that image either builds credibility or raises questions. An outdated photo from five years ago doesn’t cut it anymore.
When you work with an experienced photographer, you walk away with images that feel authentic. Not overly posed. Not stiff. Just you, looking professional and approachable at the same time.
The difference shows up when clients choose to work with you because you looked trustworthy. When your team’s headshots finally match across your website. When you stop cringing at your profile picture and start using it everywhere. That’s what a proper portrait session delivers.
We’ve been photographing Houston professionals since 1974. That’s five decades of understanding what works in corporate environments, what puts people at ease in front of the camera, and how to solve lighting challenges on location.
After graduating from Brooks Institute of Photography and serving in the U.S. Army, Joe Robbins built a commercial photography business that’s worked with ad agencies, corporate teams, and business professionals throughout the Houston metro area. He’s also taught photography and digital imaging for 21 years at HCC and The Art Institute of Houston.
Bammel and the surrounding areas have changed a lot since we started in 1984, but the need for professional imagery hasn’t. If anything, remote work and digital presence have made quality headshots more important than ever. You’re not just getting a photographer here—you’re working with someone who’s seen every type of shoot and knows how to handle whatever comes up.
Before the shoot, we talk about what you need these images for. LinkedIn? Your website? A corporate directory? That context shapes everything from wardrobe to background to lighting setup.
On shoot day, you’ll either come to the studio or we’ll come to your office—whichever makes more sense for your schedule and the look you’re after. The session itself doesn’t take long. Most headshots are done in 30 minutes or less. Corporate team shoots move quickly once everyone knows the plan.
During the session, you’ll see images in real time. If something’s not working—the angle, the expression, the lighting—we adjust it right then. No surprises weeks later when you finally see the photos. You leave knowing exactly what you’re getting, and the final edited images are delivered digitally within a few days. You can use them immediately wherever you need them.

Corporate headshots are the most common request. You need a clean, professional image for your team’s website or your own LinkedIn profile. These sessions focus on consistency, especially when photographing multiple employees. Same lighting, same background approach, same level of polish.
Family portraits are different. They’re less about corporate polish and more about capturing real connection. Whether it’s a multi-generational session or just your immediate family, the goal is images you’ll actually want to print and display.
Executive portraits and personal branding photography require more environmental context. These aren’t just headshots—they’re images that tell a story about what you do and how you do it. We’ll shoot in your office, at your location, or somewhere that reflects your work.
Houston’s professional headshot market has grown significantly as remote work became standard. More people need updated images, and they need them to look current. The trend in 2026 is moving away from overly dramatic lighting and heavy editing toward natural, authentic imagery. That’s always been our approach—real people, real lighting, real results.
Every year to two years, depending on how much your appearance changes. If you’ve changed your hairstyle, grown or shaved facial hair, gotten glasses, or simply aged visibly since your last photo, it’s time for a new one.
Outdated headshots create a trust problem. When someone meets you in person or on a video call and you look noticeably different from your photo, it registers as inconsistent. They might not consciously think about it, but it affects credibility.
For professionals who are actively networking, speaking, or visible in their industry, annual updates make sense. For everyone else, every two years keeps you current without overdoing it. If your company is updating team photos, that’s your cue to get a new individual headshot too.
Wear what you’d wear to an important meeting with a client. Not your most casual day, not a costume version of “professional”—just your actual work wardrobe at its best.
Solid colors work better than busy patterns, which can be distracting in a headshot. Avoid bright white if possible, as it can create lighting challenges. Darker or mid-tone colors tend to photograph well and keep the focus on your face.
Bring a couple of options if you’re unsure. You can change shirts between shots if you want variety. Make sure your clothes fit well and are wrinkle-free. If you’re getting team headshots done, check if there’s a dress code guideline to keep everyone consistent. And if you wear glasses normally, wear them in your photo—people should recognize you.
Both. It depends on what makes sense for your situation and the type of portrait you need.
Studio sessions give you controlled lighting and a clean, consistent background. They’re efficient for headshots, especially when photographing multiple people in one day. If you’re in Bammel or anywhere in the Houston area and want to come to the studio, that works.
On-location shoots make sense when you want environmental context—your office, your workspace, or somewhere that reflects what you do. Corporate clients often prefer on-site sessions because it’s easier to coordinate their team’s schedules. We bring the lighting and equipment needed to make any location work.
The choice really comes down to convenience and the final look you’re after. A clean headshot? Studio’s usually faster. An executive portrait that shows you in your element? Location makes more sense.
Individual headshots typically take 20 to 30 minutes. That includes time to adjust lighting, try a couple of different angles or expressions, and review images together.
Family portrait sessions run longer—usually 45 minutes to an hour. You need time for everyone to relax, for kids to warm up, and to capture a variety of shots. Rushing a family session usually means you don’t get the natural expressions you want.
Corporate team photography depends on how many people you’re photographing. Figure roughly 15 minutes per person once everything’s set up. A team of ten people might take two to three hours total, including setup and breakdown.
The actual time in front of the camera is short. Most of the work happens in preparation and post-production. You’re not spending your whole day on this—just enough time to get it done right.
You receive fully edited, high-resolution digital files that you can use anywhere—your website, social media, print materials, whatever you need. The files are yours to keep and use.
Editing includes color correction, exposure adjustments, and basic retouching. The goal is to make you look like yourself on your best day, not like a different person. Heavy filtering and dramatic editing aren’t part of the process here—authenticity is.
Files are delivered digitally, usually within three to five business days after your session. You’ll get a download link or file transfer, and you can save the images wherever you need them. If you need specific file sizes or formats for different platforms, that’s handled during delivery.
For corporate clients photographing multiple employees, you’ll receive all edited images in a batch, organized and ready to use across your marketing materials. No waiting weeks to get your photos—you’ll have them while the session is still fresh in your mind.
Session fees vary based on what you need. A single headshot session is different from a family portrait shoot or a full day of corporate photography. The best approach is to discuss your specific needs and get a quote based on that.
What you’re paying for is fifty years of experience, professional equipment, proper lighting, and the ability to make you comfortable in front of the camera. Cheaper options exist, but they usually mean less experience, inconsistent results, or longer turnaround times.
Corporate clients often ask about volume pricing for team headshots. When you’re photographing ten or twenty employees, per-person rates typically decrease. It’s more efficient to shoot everyone in one session, and that efficiency gets passed along.
The investment makes sense when you consider how long you’ll use these images and how often they’ll represent you. A quality headshot might cost a few hundred dollars but gets used for a year or two across every professional platform you’re on. That’s a small cost for the credibility it builds.
