Hear from Our Customers
You need portraits that do their job. Headshots that make you look approachable and credible on LinkedIn. Family portraits where everyone actually looks comfortable. Corporate images that reflect how your team really works together.
The difference shows up in how people respond. A professional headshot changes how clients perceive you before you even speak. Family portraits that capture genuine connection become the images you actually want to display. Business portraits that show your team’s personality help potential customers trust you faster.
This isn’t about perfect lighting for the sake of perfect lighting. It’s about images that serve a purpose in your life or business. Whether you’re updating your website, creating marketing materials, or finally getting that family portrait everyone keeps asking about, you need a photographer who understands what the final image needs to accomplish. That’s where technique meets intention.
I’ve been creating portraits since 1974. That’s not a tagline—it’s 50 years of learning how to make people comfortable in front of a camera and deliver images that actually get used.
I graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography and established Joe Robbins Photography in 1984. Since then, I’ve worked with corporate clients, advertising agencies, and families throughout the Houston area, including Hufsmith and surrounding communities like Augusta Pines, Decker Prairie, and North Houston Metro. I taught photography at HCC and The Art Institute of Houston for 21 years, and served as president of ASMP Houston chapter.
That experience matters when you’re standing in front of a camera wondering if you look awkward. I know how to communicate with you to bring out your personality instead of just pointing and shooting. Clients consistently mention how the process felt easier than expected and the results exceeded what they hoped for.
First, we talk about what you need these portraits for. Corporate headshots for a website require different lighting and framing than family portraits for your living room. Understanding the end use shapes everything else.
Then we discuss location. Studio sessions offer controlled lighting and clean backgrounds—ideal for professional headshots and business portraits. Environmental portraits happen at your office, your home, or another location that tells part of your story. The choice depends on what you’re trying to communicate.
During the session, I work with you to find natural expressions and comfortable poses. This isn’t about forcing a smile or holding an awkward position. It’s about creating an environment where your real personality shows up. I’ll give you direction, but it won’t feel like you’re being posed to death.
After the shoot, you’ll review the images and select the ones that work best for your needs. Turnaround is fast because I understand you’re not ordering portraits for fun—you need them for something specific. You’ll receive professionally edited, high-resolution images ready for whatever use you have in mind.
Ready to get started?
Professional headshots remain the most requested service. You need an image that works across LinkedIn, your company website, conference materials, and marketing collateral. One session can produce multiple looks with different backgrounds and lighting setups, giving you options for different contexts.
Family portraits in the Hufsmith area often happen in clients’ homes or at nearby outdoor locations. The goal is capturing your family as they actually are—not some stiff, formal version. These sessions work best when kids can move around a bit and parents can relax. You’ll get images that feel authentic instead of staged.
Corporate and business portraits serve companies throughout North Houston who need images for team pages, annual reports, internal communications, and marketing campaigns. These can happen at your office location, creating environmental portraits that show your team in their actual workspace. It adds context and authenticity that studio shots sometimes lack.
Group portraits for businesses, organizations, or extended families require different skills than individual portraits. I have the technical expertise to light larger groups properly and the people skills to coordinate everyone efficiently. You won’t spend two hours trying to get everyone looking at the camera at the same time.
Wear what makes sense for how you’ll use the images. For professional headshots, choose clothing that matches how you want to be perceived in your industry. If you wear suits to client meetings, wear a suit for your headshot. If your industry is more casual, business casual works fine.
Solid colors typically work better than busy patterns, which can distract from your face. Avoid bright whites and pure blacks in studio settings—they can create exposure challenges. Bring multiple outfit options if you want variety, especially for corporate portraits that might be used in different contexts.
For family portraits, coordinate without being too matchy. You want to look like you belong together without everyone wearing the exact same color. Think about the final display location too—if the portrait will hang in a room with specific colors, consider how your clothing choices will work with that space.
Individual headshot sessions usually take 30-45 minutes. That includes time to adjust lighting, try different backgrounds if needed, and capture multiple expressions and angles. You’re not rushing, but you’re also not spending your entire afternoon in a studio.
Family portrait sessions typically run 60-90 minutes, depending on the number of people and how young the kids are. Younger children need more time and patience. We build in flexibility so no one feels stressed about keeping a toddler perfectly still for an hour.
Corporate group sessions vary based on team size. For a small team of 5-10 people, plan on about an hour. Larger groups take longer, but the per-person time is efficient once lighting is set up. We can often photograph 20-30 employees in a few hours if everyone arrives on schedule.
Both. Studio sessions work well for traditional headshots and portraits where you want clean, professional backgrounds and controlled lighting. The studio setup produces consistently excellent results regardless of weather or time of day.
Location shoots happen at your office, your home, or outdoor locations around Hufsmith and the greater Houston area. Environmental portraits add context and personality that studio shots can’t provide. Seeing someone in their actual workspace or home environment tells a richer story.
The choice depends on what you need. Corporate headshots for a website? Studio usually makes sense. Team photos that show your company culture? Your office location probably works better. Family portraits? Many clients prefer the comfort of their own home or a meaningful outdoor location. We’ll discuss what serves your goals during the initial conversation.
You’ll typically receive your edited, high-resolution images within one week of your session. That timeline includes professional editing—color correction, exposure adjustments, and retouching that enhances without making you look like a different person.
Rush turnaround is available if you have an immediate need. If you’re launching a website next week or need headshots for an upcoming conference, communicate that upfront. Faster delivery is possible when necessary, though standard turnaround already accommodates most business and personal timelines.
You’ll receive digital files in high resolution, suitable for both print and web use. No need to buy prints through the photography studio if you don’t want to—you own the images and can use them however you need. That said, professional printing services are available if you want physical prints without dealing with online print shops yourself.
Most people are. That’s normal and expected. Very few clients walk in completely comfortable having their photo taken. The difference is working with a photographer who knows how to make the process easier instead of more awkward.
I’ve been photographing people since 1974. I’ve seen every version of camera discomfort and know how to work through it. Part of that is clear direction—you’re never left wondering what to do with your hands or where to look. Part of it is conversation that gets you focused on something other than the fact that you’re being photographed.
The technical side matters too. When lighting is set up correctly and the photographer knows what they’re doing, sessions move efficiently. You’re not standing under hot lights for 45 minutes while someone fiddles with settings. Competence reduces anxiety. You’ll likely be surprised at how quickly you relax once the session actually starts.
Portrait session pricing varies based on what you need. Individual headshot sessions start around $150-200, which is competitive for professional photography in the North Houston area. That typically includes the session time, professional editing, and digital delivery of finished images.
Family portrait sessions and corporate group photography are priced based on the scope of work. A family session with 4-5 people costs more than an individual headshot but less than photographing an entire company team. Location shoots sometimes involve additional travel considerations depending on where you’re located relative to Houston.
The investment reflects 50 years of experience and professional-grade equipment that produces publication-ready results. You’re not paying for someone with a nice camera—you’re paying for expertise that shows up in the final images. When you need portraits that actually work for their intended purpose, the cost difference between amateur and professional becomes obvious quickly. Contact Joe Robbins Photography directly for specific pricing based on your particular needs.
